The Town of Midland is issuing a call for artists for two community engagement art projects. The two projects will be lead by Simcoe County artists and the community will have the opportunity to help paint the new artworks during the Town’s inaugural Georgian Bay Waterfront Festival taking place on August 8 and 9, 2026.

The Town is accepting applications from artists based in Simcoe County as well as the cities of Barrie and Orillia. Artists must have experience creating murals and working with the public, including those of all ages and artistic abilities.

The Town will provide the alupanels required for the projects. The selected artists will need to prime/prepare the alupanels in advance of the event dates and will need to provide the paint and other supplies and equipment such as brushes.

The artists will conceive of the design for each project, with approval from the Town of Midland, and will have it prepared on the alupanels for the community to help paint.

For the process of the call, simple sketches are acceptable for the concept design.

After the event, the artists will complete any final touch ups to the artworks and will apply a UV protective coating.

The completed artworks need to be delivered to the Town by September 4, 2026.

Per the Town’s Public Art Policy, proposals must be inclusive and diverse and respect the rights of Indigenous people to own and control their heritage, including Indigenous images, designs, stories and other cultural expression. If artist is not Indigenous, we request confirmation of consultation should Indigenous imagery or stories be incorporated into the projects.

Artists may submit a proposal for each project however due to the requirement to engage with the community during an event, only one project will be awarded to one artist.

Questions regarding this project should be directed to tourism@midland.ca by 12 p.m. (noon) July 14, 2026 and responses will be posted on this page by 4 p.m. on July 15, 2026.
