The Town of Midland is seeking Requests for Proposals (RFP) from organizations, businesses, or individuals to enter into a multi-year sponsorship agreement with the Town of Midland for the naming rights of the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, located at 427 Len Self Boulevard, Midland, Ontario. About the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre:
The North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre (NSSRC) is a multi-purpose recreational facility in the heart of Midland, serving the North Simcoe area. From sports to celebrations, meetings to milestones, it’s where residents, visitors and community groups come together to create memories and build connections.
As a multi-purpose destination, the NSSRC serves as a welcoming place to host weddings, receptions, sporting events, fundraisers, craft shows, seminars, meetings, and more. The versatile spaces can accommodate gatherings of 15 to 1,400 people. Whether it’s a large-scale tournament or an intimate meeting, the NSSRC is the place for any occasion.
The 118,000 square-foot facility is home to:
- Two NHL-sized ice surfaces (200 x 85 ft), supported by 11 changerooms, 2 designated girls’ changerooms, and a referee changeroom.
- A double gymnasium (10,120 sq ft), with 2 dedicated changerooms that include locker and showering facilities.
- A Community Hall with a 560-person capacity.
- Five meeting rooms of varying sizes.
- Additional public use amenities, including a sports store, concession area, and shooting pad facility.
- Hosting office space, currently occupied by a Rogers Studio and Kinark Family and Child Services.
The NSSRC is home to an array of sports teams, community groups and organizations, including as Midland Minor Hockey, North Simcoe Girls Hockey, Titans Minor Lacrosse, Penetang Midland Minor Ball Hockey, Wave Minor Basketball, Midland Penetang Minor Baseball. Other organizations include the Midland Area Pickleball Club, Special Olympics, Penetang Midland Ladies Ball Hockey, Penetang Midland Ladies Hockey, Boys and Girls Club, Askennonia Senior Centre, Air Cadets and Sea Cadets.
The NSSRC is also the proud base of the Midland Flyers Junior C Hockey Club, part of Ontario’s largest junior hockey league (PJHL).
The NSSRC has hosted high-profile events such as International Silver Stick Regional Qualifiers, Ontario Winter Games, Olympic Torch Relay, Pan Am Torch Relay, National and Provincial Weightlifting Competitions, Provincial Intermediate Lacrosse Tournament, International Shuffleboard Championships, Atlantic Challenge, Provincial Ball Hockey Tournament, Provincial Special Olympics Ball Hockey, Ontario 55+ Games, and Silver Goose Cyclo-Cross.
Annually, the NSSRC hosts multiple hockey tournaments for Midland Minor Hockey and North Simcoe Girls Hockey. It’s the backdrop for annual staples like the Home Show, Model Train Show, and Pop Culture Comicon, and has welcomed iconic performers like Glass Tiger, The Stampeders, Doc Walker and the late Stompin’ Tom Connors.
